Asian Games in Progress

The 15th annual Asian Games are in their fourth day in Doha, Qatar. Forty-five teams are competing including North Korea & South Korea, Iraq & Kuwait, Lebanon & Syria, and China & someplace called "Chinese Taipei".

So far, eighteen countries have medaled. China took top honors in Mens' and Womens' table tennis, followed by the South Korean men and the Singaporean women. Of the five Singaporean
women, two are definitely naturalized residents originally from China. Based on names, I would say one more is originally from China and the two others are Singapore-Singaporeans. That's just my educated guess.

Southeast Asians Malaysia and Thailand are favorites in their indigenous sepaktakraw competition. And South Korea is a taekwondo favorite. India and Bangladesh are expected to clean up kabaddi.

The games are run by the Olympic Council of Asia, an associate of the International Olympic Committee.
