Abu Sayyaf Leader Definitely Dead

The Armed Forces of the Philippines killed Abu Sayyaf leader Khaddafy Janjalani, DNA tests confirm.

Testing on some remains found in December of a person killed in September proves AFP killed Janjalani in a firefight. A few days earlier, Abu Sulaiman had been mortally injured in a separate battle with armed forces.
The US had offered a reward of up to $5 million for info leading to the capture or death of these two. Seems the US embassy will be giving that money to some tip-offerer.

Abu Sayyaf is thought to have provided aid and comfort to Jemaah Islamiah in the form of sanctuary for suspected bomb-maker Dulmatin.

Abu Sayyaf is a splinter group of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, a Muslim separatist rebel group in the southern Philippines. The group's founder, Salamat Hashim, was originally inspired by the Wahhabi-style teachings he picked up as a student in Cairo and Saudi Arabia. Role models include Sayyid Qutb and the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood.
