One Caring and Sharing Community
The 12th ASEAN Summit has finished in Cebu. I am impressed with the dedicated web page.
The theme: One Caring and Sharing Community
Of note, hmm:
A re-endorsement of a SEA free trade area -- by 2015 if possible. Supposedly, Singapore and Brunei will form a free-trade area in 2010. (Note: Brunei & Singapore's currencies are already tied, integrated, and completely interchangeable. You can totally pay with Brunei notes in S'pore or vice versa.)
France and East Timor signed a non-aggression pact with ASEAN
ASEAN countries inked a legal deal to make it easier to extradite and prosecute terrorism suspects within the region.
At a smaller ASEAN session with South Korea, GMA urged North Korea to give up its nuclear program. North Korea was not present at the meeting. But, they'll hear about it, I'm sure.
I don't know if it will happen on time, but a SEA-FTA sounds good. How else to compete with China? As we read in China Shakes the World, it is time for everybody to find, renew and sharpen their comparative advantages.
SEA warriors beat down last remaining conquistador.
Reenactment of "Kadaugan sa Mactan", victory at Mactan, part of the ASEAN entertainment festivities.
Next time: a full review of China Shakes the World.
